Thomas Patrick Roberts is a native Clevelander and a resident of Beachwood, Ohio. Roberts has a wide range of interest from landscapes to old city street scenes to portraiture. He works in acrylics, oils, pastels and pencil. >> Using strong dark and light contrasts as a central element in his work, his paintings and drawings typically depict people or places in moments of solitude. “I try to create a mood in my work that evokes a momentary question in the mind of the viewer.” >> Roberts is influenced by the works of artists like John Singer Sargent, Edward Hopper, George Bellows, The Ashcan School of Painters, Andrew Wyeth and Cleveland’s own, Carl Gaertner to mention a few. In contrast, he also has a strong admiration for abstract expressionist like Kline, deKooning and Pollack.
